Why Outdoor Access Matters in Fresno

Despite being located near world-renowned natural wonders, Fresno has historically suffered from severe park deficits. In national park evaluations (ranking 98 out of 100 in the Trust for Public Land ParkScore), low-income communities of color have drastically less accessible acreage and fewer shaded open spaces than wealthier neighborhoods. Access to nature, recreation, and fresh air is a public health and environmental justice issue that requires targeted investment, community-designed spaces, and dedicated public maintenance.

Key Efforts & Signature Campaigns

Calwa Park Transformation

Leading the community-centered execution of a $6.6 million Prop 68 grant at Calwa Park, turning a long-underfunded regional staple into a modern, safe, and active recreational hub with sports courts, playgrounds, and community gathering areas.

Western Reaches Access & Activation Plan (WRAAP)

Partnering with the San Joaquin River Conservancy to open up public access to 22 miles of the San Joaquin River, reactivating Camp Pashayan, and building connecting multi-use trails (#River4All).

Measure P Parks Implementation

Organizing community oversight to ensure Measure P tax revenues build new neighborhood parks in park-poor zip codes, repair aging community centers, and expand youth outdoor recreation.
